Gallifrey: Weapon Of Choice (#1.01)

"Time is not the preserve of an aristocracy - it is inviolate! Free!
Free Time!"
The Time Lords of Gallifrey were the first to map the Web of Time. Now,
under the reforming gaze of President Romanadvoratrelundar, the oldest
civilisation is ready to shed its monopoly, sharing its secrets with a
coalition of the Temporal Powers the Monan Host, the Nekkistani and the
Warpsmiths of Phaidon among them.
But the coalition is a fragile one, and despised in some quarters. When
a team of Time Technology Assessors makes a horrific discovery on the
barren moon of Kikrit, it seems their enemies are arming themselves to
strike at the alliance. Has a terrorist group really acquired a temporal
weapon so terrible the Time Lords forgot about its existence?
In search of the truth, Romana sends the woman called Leela and the
robot dog K9 to the enclave of Gryben, a reception centre for temporal
refugees. But the truth is war's first casualty and the fallout could
destroy them all...

Nepenthe: "Your law is a dead thing. Free Time!"
Braxiatel: "Sentries for the centuries. I do like that."
K9: "For the purposes of this mission, agent Torvald and mistress Leela will be slaves of K9 unit." Romana: "K9 is a vicious robot criminal from the fifth galaxy. Aren't you K9?" K9: "Affirmative." Romana: "Oh, come on. You need to be more assertive than that!"
Arkadian: "Did I ever tell you I was in love, once? It's true! She drove me to drink. I'll be forever in her debt..."
Torvald: "There's humanity for you. Even in a shanty town they want the biggest house on the block!"
Nepenthe: "They think their age gives them precedence and crush those who will not submit to their benevolent domination. But their State is rotten and decayed. Their decrepitude is the foundation of their tyranny! Gryben is full of decent human pioneers, their talents strangled for the crime of invention. But a race that cannot progress is a dead one, and we will not curl up and die by the diktat of these ancients."
Leela: "What happens now?" Nepenthe: "The end of the world, I expect."
Ba'aruk: "That's so CIA. All Intervention, no intelligence."

Weapon Of Choice "focuses on political bickering between the
races who have some mastery over time, and a terrible super weapon
that could erase entire continuums. But who developed the weapon,
and will they use it?" and is written by
Alan Barnes, who previously penned
Storm Warning,
Neverland and co-authored
Zagreus.
The character of Braxiatel originated in
Justin Richards' 1994 New Adventures novel Theatre
Of War and has been a mainstay of both the Virgin and Big Finish
Bernice Summerfield series.
