"All things must die."
Washed up on the sandy shores of a paradise island, a wild-eyed shipwreck
survivor is rescued by the wife of Daqar Keep, the richest man in the
galaxy.
Her name's Perfection. He's the Doctor. Together, they face a journey into
the dark heart of this mysterious island, to discover the deepest secrets
of this timeless cosmos. That's if the giant crabs, killer crocodiles and
murderous natives don't get them first.
Meanwhile, fellow travellers Charley and C'rizz have their own ordeal to
endure, in the grip of the Doctor's most dangerous rival. And in a
universe that's facing extinction, even the best of friends may soon
become enemies...
This life is almost over. And not everyone will make it to the next.

Episode One:
Lady Pollard asks the man who he is and he answers that he is the Lord Rassilon. Despite appearances to the contrary, her daughter's mind is under his complete domination...
Episode Two:
Keep tells the Doctor that it's nothing personal, but the good of the mission must come before anything else. He is Keep, he is the Foundation and he is the Truth. As the Doctor has killed, the Truth must have his blood. Keep orders his porters to kill the Doctor...
Episode Three:
C'rizz cannot believe that killing the woman he loved was simply a test to Guidance, but he asserts that it was a trial of devotion to the Church of the Foundation. Taking that first step into the next life. Guidance tells C'rizz that he is so pleased to see him again, to see his son once more...
Episode Four:
Perfection suggests that Keep intends to repopulate the rest of the universe in his own image, but she doesn't believe its right as she thinks the people could be saved. She knows there's something on the planet that makes the destruction happen, she just needed someone to help her find the way. She thinks the Doctor is her hero, although he disagrees. But if they fail and it does come to repopulating the universe and bringing the next life about, it won't be Keep she's doing it with...
Episode Five:
C'rizz knows that only Keep and Perfection know the truth. This isn't really the Church of the Foundation as the name is a corruption, with its origins half-remembered. When he tells them that it's Foundry instead, the Doctor realises what he means when the TARDIS arrives and the man C'rizz has sold himself to emerges from within - Rassilon...
Episode Six:
The familiar leader of those familiar creatures waiting within the room
welcomes the Doctor back. He, or rather, they, have been waiting for him.
The Doctor tells Charley they are most definitely home now...
C'rizz: "Is there a point to this story?"
C'rizz: "I'm not the person you think I am..."
Charley: "Been around with the Doctor too long now. Not much left to
surprise me."
C'rizz: "None of this matters!"
Rassilon: "We must push ahead, Kro'ka. No more tests, no more questions."
Rassilon: "He's been searching for me and I have in turn been searching
for you."
C'rizz: "The church believes all things must die. They told me death was a
transfiguration. A route into the next life. To kill was a privilege
granted to the most adept ... and, oh, I was adept. Most adept."
Charley: "Who's she?"
Rassilon: "He knew what he was going to find in this universe, but didn't
want you along. I wonder why."
Rassilon: "You drew his enemy's fire and should you have fallen in action,
he'd have recruited himself another foot soldier."
Rassilon: "You left your church only to worship at the altar of the Doctor.
Like the Church, he cares nothing for you."
Keep: "Today we hunt the most dangerous game of all."
Daphne Ashbrook starred with
Paul McGann in the 1996 Doctor Who TV
Movie as Dr Grace Holloway. Paul Darrow is
perhaps best known for his memorable portrayal of Avon in
Blake's 7, but is also one of the stars of Magic Bullet's
Kaldor City audio series.
Briefly known as Rassilon, The Next Life is
Alan Barnes' fourth Eighth Doctor story and
will resolve the divergent universe storyline.
