Medicinal Purposes
From The Back Cover...

Edinburgh, 1827.

The infamous body snatchers William Burke and William Hare are at large. The local prostitutes dull their fear with cheap whisky. The graveyard owls are hooting. Business is good.

When accidental tourists the Doctor and Evelyn Smythe stumble upon one of Britain's most lurid, illuminating chapters in history, a simple case of interest in the work of dedicated man of science Doctor Robert Knox, quickly turns sour.

Just what is that time bending Scots mist? What ever it is may put the very fabric of the universe under threat.

As always.

Episode Endings

Episode One:
The Doctor finds Hare's irate reaction to his mention of William Burke perplexing. He speculates that it was almost as if he'd never heard of him. Mary asks why that would be so strange as she's never heard of William Burke either...

Episode Two:
The Doctor collides with an Irishman leaving "The Last Drop." Helping the Doctor to his feet, the man offers to buy him a quick nip to make up for the accident. The Doctor readily accepts as he and his colleagues were about to partake anyway. The Irishman introduces himself as William Burke...

Episode Three:
The Doctor realises you cannot outrun inevitability. All the events he and Evelyn have witnessed have been pre-arranged, pre-planed and even pre-performed. They arrived in the middle of a well rehearsed run-through. Everything has already happened and there is nothing he can do to stop it...

Episode Four:
When Daft Jamie leaves them, Evelyn realises that the Doctor has dropped him off moments before Burke and Hare will make him "famous." Evelyn understands why it has to be like this, but she doesn't like it. The Doctor tells her to look at it from a different perspective, Jamie has his place in history and in peoples' hearts - including theirs...

Memorable Quotes

Mary Patterson: "They call you daft, but you're lucky." Daft Jamie: "I'm lucky?" Mary Patterson: "You haven't been spoiled by this place. This horrible place..."

Billy Hare: "The drink has got us all. What a wonderful way to go!"

Evelyn: "When in a cliffhanging situation always go for the cliché, that's my motto."

Evelyn: "I just like a bit of a moan occasionally, I suppose."

Billy Hare: "I don't like strangers. They've no right to be here, not now."

Doctor Robert Knox: "What do you know about destiny, girl? I wouldn't give you a farthing for your destiny."

The Doctor: "My dear Evelyn, rudeness isn't a crime."

The Doctor: "I've had a vast amount of experience of the strange."

Doctor Robert Knox: "Imperfections are so fascinating, don't you think? They make a work of art a masterpiece."

Doctor Robert Knox: "Right? You talk to me about right? I have the right to do what I damn well please."

Evelyn: "Body snatchers I can take or leave, now scientists! You never know what they're thinking."

Daft Jamie: "No one can shout, no one can shout, no one can shout when the Doctor's about."

Doctor Robert Knox: "Reputations are sometimes a massive disappointment, don't you find?"

The Doctor: "Evil shouldn't be a business!"
