Doctor Who: The Time Of The Daleks (#32)
|
|
|
The Doctor has always admired the work of William Shakespeare. So he is a
little surprised that Charley doesn't hold the galaxy's greatest
playwright in the same esteem. In fact she's never heard of him.
Which the Doctor thinks is quite impossible.
General Mariah Learman, ruling Britain after the Eurowars, is one of
Shakespeare's greatest admirers, and is convinced her time machine will
enable her to see the plays' original performances.
Which the Doctor believes is extremely unlikely.
The Daleks just want to help. They want Learman to get her time machine
working. They want Charley to appreciate the first ever performance of
Julius Caesar They believe that Shakespeare is the greatest
playwright ever to have existed and venerate his memory.
Which the Doctor knows if utterly impossible.

Episode One:
The Doctor realises that they’re too late and the Daleks are coming
through a hole in the fabric of time itself. As they arrive, the Daleks
chant endlessly that they are the masters of time...
Episode Two:
The rebels refuse to surrender and a fire-fight between them and the
Daleks erupts. The Daleks warn that the master clock must not be damaged
and the Doctor shouts out for Charley as she’s in the line of fire...
Episode Three:
The Doctor realises that this the catastrophic event they’ve been trying
to prevent. This is the end of history as they know it and the start of
the time of the Daleks...
Episode Four:
The Doctor just doesn’t know what to do about this turn of events. Charley
admits to him that she’s scared. The Doctor confides that he is as well...
The Orator: 'The time is out of joint!'
The Doctor: 'I think we’ve already established that your not a huge devotee of Shakespeare,
judging by your less than enthusiastic response to my extremely clever tidal wave allusion.'
The Doctor: 'That’ll be the usual misunderstandings of course. Get locked up, escape, dice with death,
get locked up again. That sort of thing.'
General Mariah Learman: 'To observe it is to change it. We are applying that principle to time itself.'
Dalek: 'The Daleks venerate Shakespeare.'
The Doctor: 'In one hour somehow we face the beginning of the end of the world.' Charley: 'Why
are you so worried? It's not like these Daleks are going around killing anyone!' The Doctor: 'It isn't, and
that's what worries me most.'
The Doctor: 'Tell me about the nightmares.' Viola: 'A world of conformity. No individuals, just
a mass of humanity following orders. A world where there's no thought, no imagination, no love.'
The Doctor: 'Discretion is the better part of valour, you can't do anything if your dead!'
The Time Of The Daleks is the third script from prolific Doctor
Who novelist Justin Richards, and
marks the first occasion that Paul McGann has faced off against the Daleks!
Perhaps surprisingly, the CD packaging and the notes within indicate that
this is the fourth of the 'Dalek Empire' series, forming a coda to
the first three Dalek Doctor Who audios featuring the
7th, 6th and 5th Doctors.
