Doctor Who: The Fires Of Vulcan (#12)
|
|
|
Two thousand years ago, a cataclysmic volcanic eruption wiped the Roman
city of Pompeii from the face of the Earth. It also buried the Doctor's
TARDIS...
Arriving in Pompeii one day before the disaster, the Doctor and Mel
find themselves separated from their ship and entangled in local politics.
With time running out, they fight to escape from the shadow of Mount
Vesuvius. But how can they succeed when history itself is working
against them?

|
Episode One:
The Doctor and Mel discover that the earthquake has buried the TARDIS in
the rubble. The Doctor tells Mel he's sorry, but he's seen the future and
the TARDIS will be dug out of the ash in 1980 - no one will see it again
for almost 2000 years...
Episode Two:
The Doctor cannot do anything as Mel is dragged away by guards acting
under Eumachia's orders. Mel knows she can't be locked up because with
Vesuvius erupting tomorrow she'll die with the rest of Pompeii...
Episode Three:
With the Doctor trapped by Murranus, he refuses to fight. Despite the
Doctor's protests that killing him won't do anything to restore his
honour, Murranus charges him with murderous intent...
Episode Four:
Having arrived in the present day of Pompeii, the Doctor and Mel discuss
what has happened to the people they met in the past. They then leave
events now to take place the way they should as Professor Scalini and
Captain Frost appear...
The Doctor: 'This is your history and no good can come of our
meddling in it.'
Mel: 'Question mark pullovers are the height of discretion,
I suppose!'
The Doctor: 'History has already taken account of our actions, and
it's shown us their outcome.'
The Doctor: 'We can't cheat time!'
The Doctor: 'I just seem to be in the wrong place at the right
time. As usual.'
Mel: 'It doesn't seem fair.' The Doctor: 'Time never is.'
The Fires Of Vulcan is the first audio written by prolific
Doctor Who author Steve Lyons. The
character played by Karen Henson, Captain
Muriel Frost, originated from the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip.
